1926年6月6日、大正末期に建てられた母屋が築百年を迎えました。
町家を少し大きくした造りのこの家には当時の良材が使われており、出会った時も傷みはほとんど見られませんでした。
総二階建ての建物には、約10mの吹き抜けをもつ通り土間があり、上部には大きな民家や寺院に見られる準棟纂壁(じゅんとうさんぺき)が採用されています。
また、建具や細部の意匠には比較的地味で素朴な民家的要素が残され、激動の時代の中、近代化に向かう途上の建物であることを物語っているようでした。
改修工事はまだ道半ばですが、築百年の節目にご縁のある14名の作家のご協力のもとこの家を飾らせていただきます。

“ Kankakari Centennial Exhibition “
On 6 June 1926, at the end of the Taishō era, the main house of Kankakari was completed. It has now celebrated its 100th anniversary.
Built in a style reminiscent of a traditional machiya, though on a slightly larger scale, the house was constructed using high-quality materials of its time. Even when we first encountered it, there was little sign of serious deterioration.
The fully two-storey structure features a tōri-doma (passage earthen floor) with an approximately 10-metre-high open space. Above it is a Juntō Sanpeki, a structural element more commonly found in large farmhouses and temples. Meanwhile, the fittings and details retain the simple character of vernacular dwellings, reflecting a building created during Japan’s transition toward modernity.
The restoration is now approaching completion. Nevertheless, to mark this centennial milestone, we are pleased to welcome works by fourteen artists with whom we share a special connection.
