服飾文化の豊かな源泉への眼差しと、美しい環境の中での日々の交歓を通して生成する心象。
i a i の衣は、その重なりの中から発光する現象のようであり、一衣一衣が固有の景色を映し出す“心象の衣”として在るように思えます。
地下2000mの古層から湧き出る大きな泉、点在する巨石、染色や衣の一部となる植物に囲まれた”なきうみ”という土地。
地球の原風景を思わせるその豊かな土地に暮らし、その環境と一続きであるかように i a i の創作の風景はありました。
各地から集められた布に施された手刺繍や刺し子、多重針による意匠、敷地から採取した様々な植物による染色…
今展では、手仕事によって生み出された約100点の一点ものの衣とともに、三年に及ぶ家づくりの中で着想を得たという掛軸を展示いたします。
お互いの家がひと段落してからと、三年半前から話していた展示がようやく実現となります。
新装したkankakariの空間で、なきうみから届くi a i の創作の一端に触れて頂けますことを心より楽しみにしております。

A gaze into the rich source of clothing culture and the mental images generated through daily exchanges in beautiful surroundings. The garments of “ i a i ” are like phenomena that radiate from within their layers, with each piece reflecting a unique landscape as a “garment of mental imagery.”
In “ Naki Umi ”, a land surrounded by plants that become part of the dyes and fabrics, there is a great spring welling up from ancient strata 2000 meters below, and scattered massive stones. Living in this richly endowed land, reminiscent of the Earth’s primal landscape, “ i a i ” draws inspiration from this environment.
The exhibition will feature about 100 unique pieces created by handwork, including embroidered and sashiko patterns on fabrics collected from various regions, intricate multi-needle works, and dyeing using plants gathered on the property.
We will also show his first Kakejiku works (hanging scrolls) conceived during a three-year journey of his home-building.
This exhibition, planned since three and a half years ago, finally comes to fruition now that each of our homes has reached a resting point.
We look forward to welcoming you into the newly renovated kankakari space, where you can experience a glimpse of i a i’s creations brought from “Naki Umi.”
