chikuniを主宰するアワヤタケシによる初の個展を開催致します。

今展のきっかけは、kankakariの改修計画を始めた3年前に遡ります。

この空間にどんな照明を想像するか、また漉き紙を使った新しい照明を

作れないかアワヤさんに相談したことが発端となり、ほぼ全てが一点ものの

照明での展覧会を開催する流れとなりました。

古物や近現代のデザインに造詣の深いアワヤさんにどのような答えを見せて

頂けるのか、30点余りの照明に灯され浮かび上がる古家の新たな輪郭も

愉しみなところです。

大正15年の建設当時は、行燈、平仄、燭台などの灯具を経て、石油ランプから

白熱球への移行期に当たりますが、民家と照明、暮らしと灯具の関係は興味深く

今後も追っていきたい主題の一つです。

We are pleased to announce the first solo exhibition by Takeshi Awaya, the founder of chikuni.

The inspiration for this exhibition traces back three years to the initiation of the renovation project for kankakari.

It all began with consulting Mr. Awaya on envisioning the lighting for this space and exploring the possibility of creating new lighting using Japanese paper. This led to the decision to host an exhibition featuring almost exclusively one-of-a-kind lights.

It will be fascinating to see the responses from Mr. Awaya, who has a profound understanding of antiques and modern designs. Additionally, the new scenery emerging from the over 30 lights illuminating the old house is something to look forward to.

Dating back to the construction of this house in 1926, the relationship between household lighting, such as “andon”, “hyosoku”, and candlesticks, transitioning from oil lamps to incandescent bulbs, is an intriguing theme to explore further.
